Detroit ADA laws and civil rights

ADA stands for Americans with Disabilities Act. It aims at the prohibition of discrimination and is focused on the achievement of equality in terms of options and opportunities specifically for people with certain disabilities.

The contents of this law and civil rights include the following…..

1. Prohibition against Discrimination and other generally applicable provisions
2. Equal Employment opportunities and services
3. Law for Public Accommodation and public services managed by private units

The purpose of the ADA is to provide a clear and concise national level mandate for the elimination of discriminations against people who are differently able.

The department of transport has also put forward what is known as the Preamble for the Transportation for the people with disabilities. The features of this preamble include:

1. Purchase of rail systems or for lease and used for public utilization
2. Purchase or lease of intercity railcars of commuter railcars.
3. Wheelchair locations and food services in rail cars and trains
4. One car for the disabled per train
5. Equivalent service standards

The ADA also aims to achieving non discrimination on basis of disability in programs benefiting from the FTA.

The purpose of this act is to ensure that no person with disability is denied to participate in the beneficial programs of FTA as it is taken as granted by the person as per his civilian rights.

Furthermore, as voting is the fundamental and civil right of an individual regardless of his physical or mental impairment, the polling is made accessible for all the people with disabilities as per the Voting Accessibility for the elder and handicapped Act.
